House Of Sgra:
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about sound bath sessions, membership and your visit to House of Sgra, near Bath.
About The Practice
-
A sound bath is a guided relaxation experience using resonant instruments, in our case handcrafted Tibetan and Himalayan singing bowls, to quiet the mind and soothe the nervous system. Rather than being played as music, the bowls are sounded with intention, allowing their tones to wash over and through you while you rest.
-
House of Sgra is built on genuine lineage and provenance, not trend. Our bowls are handcrafted, some over a hundred years old, and rooted in a tradition that stretches back through Tibetan Buddhist practice to the earlier Bön rituals of the Himalayas. We offer this practice within a private members' setting, rather than as a one-off wellness class, so that it can become a lasting relationship rather than a single experience.
-
No experience is needed at all. Most members begin with a First Light Taster session, designed as a gentle, low-pressure introduction for complete beginners, before deciding whether to apply for membership.
-
Nothing but an open heart and your presence. Everything else is prepared for you.
-
Loose, comfortable clothing is best, since you will be resting throughout your session. There is no need to dress up or bring anything specific.
-
If you are pregnant or managing a health condition, please let us know at the time of booking so we can discuss what is right for you. We take this seriously and will always err on the side of care.
-
Sound baths aren't suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, or manage any other health condition, please let us know when you book. As part of the booking process, you'll also be asked to complete a short health and consent form, so together we can make sure every session is right for you before you arrive.
-
No. Our sessions are intended to support relaxation and general wellbeing, and are not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you have any health concerns, please speak to your doctor as well as letting us know before your session.
Sessions and Experiences
-
A First Light Taster is a 30-minute one-on-one or couples introduction to the practice, using handcrafted Tibetan and Himalayan singing bowls. It is the gentlest place to begin, and the usual first step before applying for membership.
-
The Voyager's Reset is a 60-minute private sound bath designed for those visiting Bath, followed by a pot of premium herbal tea, a travel-size tea gift from our Brew Tea Co. partnership, a dosa set menu at Sarthi in Bath, and 10 per cent off in our shop.
-
A First Light Taster lasts 30 minutes. A Voyager's Reset and standard membership sessions last 60 minutes.
-
Yes. The First Light Taster and the Voyager's Reset can both be booked as a couples experience. The Sanctuary membership also includes one shared session to bring a friend, detailed on our Memberships page.
-
This depends entirely on you. Some members return monthly as part of an ongoing practice, while others prefer a quarterly rhythm. First Light offers six sessions a year and The Sanctuary offers twelve, to suit different paces of practice.
Membership
-
Membership is by application rather than direct purchase. New members typically begin with a First Light Taster session, after which you are welcome to apply for the membership tier that feels right for you. Since membership is intentionally limited each year, we would encourage an early enquiry.
-
We offer two tiers, First Light and The Sanctuary. Each includes a different number of annual sessions, a welcome hamper, and a set of member privileges, all detailed on our Memberships page.
-
Membership is capped each year so that every member receives the quiet, personal attention this practice deserves.
-
No. Membership runs for a year from the date it is granted and does not renew automatically. Any renewal takes place only by written agreement, on the terms current at that time.
-
Unused sessions are not carried forward, refunded or transferred, except at our discretion. We would encourage members to use their sessions across the course of the year as part of an ongoing practice.
-
Yes, this can be discussed with us directly. Please get in touch and we will talk through what makes sense for your practice.
Booking and Cancellations
-
Sessions are booked through our online booking system and are available to book after filling out our health & consent form.. If you are enquiring about membership for the first time, please contact us directly so we can guide you through the process, beginning with a First Light Taster.
-
We ask for 48 hours' notice for any changes to your booked session. With 48 hours' notice or more, you receive a full refund. For cancellations made less than 48 hours before your session, your booking is non-refundable. In the event of a genuine emergency, such as a medical issue or a sudden family crisis, please email us straight away, and we will always work with you to reschedule.
-
A no-show is a session you do not arrive for, without word beforehand by email or through the booking platform. No-shows forfeit the full session fee. There is no refund and no reschedule.
-
This time is reserved exclusively for you, with no other bookings overlapping it, so we ask that you honour the start time. If you arrive late, your session still ends at the scheduled time, we simply begin with whatever time remains.
-
Refunds for individual sessions follow the cancellation policy above. For memberships, you have 14 days from the day after joining to cancel for a full refund; if any sessions have already been used within that window, a proportional deduction applies. Outside these terms, refunds are not given for missed sessions or unused membership sessions, except where required by law.

-
Please email us directly to discuss what is possible for your organisation, including group size, timing and any specific requirements.
